Through its vision of Everyone a Changemaker and its renowned selection process, Ashoka is filling a crucial need in Canada for direct, lifelong support for social entrepreneurs. I see Ashoka Canada building on Global Ashoka's strengths and history by growing a strong Canadian Fellowship which will collaborate with social entrepreneurs worldwide, with support from strategic partners.
Law for All Initiative
The Law For All Initiative (LFAI) spreads the collective learning and innovations of the Ashoka community working to ensure that historically marginalized populations have equal access to legal recourse.
Launched in December 2003, LFAI brings together the work of Fellows in the field of human rights and legal reform by creating a body of knowledge that captures their strategies, experiences, and lessons learned. LFAI discerns patterns of social needs and distills principles of Fellow solutions, which are then given to practitioners in the human rights sector.
As part of the initiative the following activities are being implemented:
- Mapping the global human rights landscape to understand trends and gaps in the sector
- Documenting case studies of Fellows where human rights-based approaches have been keys to success
- Distilling patterns of successful approaches to address marginalization issues
- Facilitating partnership opportunities between Fellows, peers in the human rights field, and business partners to increase social impact
- Working closely with Fellows globally to assess their individual needs and to determine collaboration opportunities
- Conducting training workshops for Fellows on human rights-based approaches
